Persisting Essay Topics
There are many common writing difficulties that students face as they apply their academic writing skills to essay topics. It is important to realize that the majority of these problems are really very simple, and can be solved by a bit of research. In fact, much of the content presented in academic essays is frequently the result of research rather than the actual experience of the writer.
In an earlier article, I explained why students tend to over-explain when they write essay topics. What this means is that it takes time to think of questions to ask, to develop a well-developed argument, and to respond to counter arguments. It is a fact that students often feel they must come up with a good argument before they get into the main body of the essay, but it can be solved with a little research.
It is very easy for people over-explain when they write about themselves, but that is because they don't have a clear idea of what they want to say.
